CANDYMAN TALKS MORE ABOUT THE OBAMA CITY MUSIC AWARDS

  

The Obama city music awards is an annual awarding event for musicians, producers and sound engineers in Cape Coast. This years event is scheduled to be on the 26^th of December 2015 and it has been so since 2011.

On skery spark talk last Saturday, Candyman of the Sompa fm and Candymania entertainment, the brain behind the awarding event delved more in to the processes and the idea behind the awards on yes fm. This year he said it starts with the filing of nomination which ends on the 10^th of October. The nomination is for anybody who is from central region or is in central region and has made good music, promoted, played and is original. The next is for the academy to go through and sort out the songs. The launching comes off next on the 31^st of October where the categories and nominees the academy got will be officially announced as well as the new board and aside that the new website www.obamacitymusicawards.com will be launched at Hayford lounge. The next is the nominees’ jams at London Bridge on the 28^th of November, then a donation for the musicians to give out to society and finally the award event at Center for National Culture on 26^th December.

This year’s award categories are 16 with new categories added year. The categories are the artiste of the year, song of the year, new artiste of the year, highlife song of the year, collaboration of the year, hiplife song of the year, best rapper of the year, reggae dancehall song of the year, best vocalist of the year, gospel musician of the year and the lifestime achievement award. The new categories added this year is the music video of the year which is to encourage the musicians to make more videos. Another is the hip gospel of the year and the most popular Ghanaian song in the central region.

He further said that the voting process is genuine. This year they have provided a short code for voters which will be either used to vote from your phone or the voter uses it on the website to vote. Without the code one can’t vote.
